As the months passed after his death, we realized the importance of creating a lasting memory that honored what was most precious to him—his experiences studying and traveling overseas. To achieve this, we established the Christopher J Chute Charitable Trust for Study Abroad, lovingly referred to as 'Chute Higher'. Our mission is to provide financial assistance for students, ensuring that all students, regardless of their financial status, can 'Chute Higher' and reach their educational aspirations. At Chute Higher, we focus on providing financial assistance for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to participate in a university-sponsored semester or year-long study abroad program. Our goal is to enable students to gain intercultural understanding, learn mutual respect, and develop a sense of social responsibility through their experiences abroad. Our first initiative established The Chris Chute Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad at DePauw University, which is awarded annually to a student in need of financial support to experience a semester or year overseas. We are thrilled about this endeavor and the opportunity to help students achieve their study abroad goals.
